Introduction

Gump is a visual collaboration platform built around passionate photographers. Our mission is to empower these superheroes who create and capture meaningful memories for this world. From photos upload, selection, comment to approval, we help photographers bring an extraordinary experience to their clients.

In this project, we designed a better solution for the user experience and the UI.

My Role

I led the design, user testing, finding solutions, community building of this project from end to end.

Our Users

Before we started designing, we deep dive into the existing behavior of our users to understand them better.
We also conducted a series of users interviews.

We focused on identifying what is the job that our customers hire our product for.

We defined user archetypes and mapped them to their respective jobs-to-be-done.

Problems

Here are some problems that photographers were facing. Something hasn’t been changed for ages.

Time-consuming for the post-production workflow
Photographers need to cross multi-platforms to get the work done like Goggle Drive for transferring photos, WhatsApp for communicating and receiving feedback.

Poor (professional) experience
When photographers receive clients’ feedback, they often need to spend a lot of time looking back and forth to find out which photos their clients pick. Some clients even take screenshots of the photos to let the photographers know which photos they picked. At the same time, a lot of the photos could be very similar.

Lack of projects
During the toughest times of 2020, photographers suddenly lost a significant portion of jobs and income.

Goals

Save (90%) time
From 1 hour to 5 mins, photographers can focus on what they are passionate about.

Tailored for collaboration
To simplify the post-production workflow and deliver a better experience, we put everything
into one place from photos upload, selection, comment to approval, etc.

Present the best
It is a platform for photographers to showcase their work and professionalism. It’s better to show their niche to their potential clients.

Expand to the next potential clients
It’s important to expand their reach as stand-alone creatives.

Process

User interviews and testings
In order to understand our users, we conducted a lot of surveys and interviews with them.
Due to COVID, we did it online.
Our goal is to redefine their workflow, we need to truly listen what their needs.

Sorry, I have to blur the photos to protect the photographers.

User flows
n order to understand our users, we conducted a lot of surveys and interviews with them. Due to COVID, we did it online.
Our goal is to redefine their workflow, we need to truly listen what their needs.

Sketch
I sketched multiple user flows to visualize ideas quickly. My focus at this stage is to diverge first, converge later.
Brainstorming as many as we can is to design a better experience,

Early Designs

A sneak peeks into my early wireframes, mid-fidelity designs, and drafts. The designs have gone through at least 30 iterations per screen. It is due to several reasons: Change in business direction, a pandemic, shift in the product roadmap,
or simply to improve the user experience.

These are the various designs I've tried and did not make the cut. It could be due to a number of reasons like
unclear value proposition, cluttered designs, and lack of simplicity.

Final Designs/ Solutions

Creative · Passion · Professional

Not only just a storage cloud, but it’s for collaboration. Storage is a bonus.
The solution is to redefine the photographers’ workflow with their clients.

Impact

As this is a huge project, we released the products in phases. As we all know, we can always make it better.

What we learned

What the one thing that they want to solve in that step
It’s always important to think and look back to the user journey. That’s why we keep that in mind
what things they are trying to solve in p particular steps throughout the journey.

Always ask more
In order to dive into their behaviors, we always need to ask more.
Also, it is also important to ask more to have different perspectives from users.
